Now they\u2019re rolling out the red carpet for Matt Tsien \u2013 ex-GM bigwig turned boardroom guru \u2013 to front their \u201cDestination Zero\u201d fairy tale. It reeks of glamour-over-guts, a PR stunt dressed up as strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tsien\u2019s r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is a trophy case of corporate buzzwords: \u201celectrification\u201d, \u201cinnovation\u201d, \u201cglobal leadership\u201d. But let\u2019s be honest \u2013 under his watch at GM, every EV launch felt like waiting for a bus that never came. Promises made, timelines blown, investors left tapping their watches. What makes you think he\u2019ll move faster at Cummins? Especially when he\u2019s got one foot in a dozen other boardrooms and a history of VC sweetheart deals?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t about actual engineering breakthroughs \u2013 it\u2019s about optics. Rumsey needs a shiny face to show the ESG crowd, to hush up the emissions fines and the factory-floor rot you\u2019ve been reading about. Stick a High Profile CTO on the masthead and suddenly you\u2019re the future, right? Wrong. It\u2019s the same old diesel dependency with a fresh coat of greenwash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget the conflicts. Tsien\u2019s deep ties to GM Ventures, AGCO and Magna smell like a cosy web of back-room favours. When Cummins pours R&amp;D cash into \u201cstrategic partnerships\u201d, whose pockets are really getting lined? Yours? The planet\u2019s? Or his mates\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worst of all, he\u2019s the epitome of the Old Guard \u2013 the guy who climbed the greasy ladder at an automaker still mired in recalls and power-train fiascos. Now he\u2019s here to \u201cguide\u201d Cummins through an energy transition that\u2019s already lurching behind schedule. If they wanted real disruption, they\u2019d hire someone who isn\u2019t already married to legacy thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So congrats, Cummins. You\u2019ve hired yourself a figurehead. A moustache-twirling symbol to distract from the engine-soot stains on your ethics. Meanwhile the factory floors still hum with desperation and the boardroom still whispers \u201cfunction or you\u2019re out\u201d.
